It is no secret that I am huge fan of my friend Victoria Vane. Whether she’s writing historical fiction under the guise of Emery Lee or erotic romance, Victoria Vane tells a rollicking good story with passionate joy in her characters that shines through on every page. Her contemporary novels are no exception.
ROUGH RIDER, the second in her cowboy series with Sourcebooks Casablanca combines her award winning story craft with a passionate duo of characters that really makes the story come to life. Told over a decade, from youthful first love between Janice and Dirk during their time on the rodeo circuit, until they meet again years later, both battered by life. Both of these heroes, for heroes they are, might be battered, but they are not beaten. They find that their love is stronger than anything that might have come between them, farther reaching than the baggage that weighs both of them down. Janice and Dirk are modern heroes for a modern world: neither one rich, neither with an easy life, they both struggle to live with dignity in the face of difficult circumstances, and they both succeed. I found a lot of joy in watching these two find each other again, as they learned to trust and revel in the love that was already between them, love that had only grown during their years apart.
So once again, I give five stars to Victoria Vane’s work ROUGH RIDER. I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one…
