Labyrinth at Mepkin Abbey

On another topic unrelated to Eleanor, at the end of October, I had the pleasure of visiting Mepkin Abbey in Moncks Corner, SC (near Charleston) and walking the labyrinth there.

This is an outdoor labyrinth, so I can’t recommend that anyone seek it out for a few more weeks, but even in late October the high grasses were filled with flowers and more butterflies than I have seen anywhere, save for the moutains of West Virginia.  Mepkin Abbey is a serene and beautiful place, good for encouraging contemplation and relaxation in anyone. As a writer, I felt as open to the Muse there as I ever have anywhere…that kind of beautiful serenity makes for a lovely quiet, the kind of quiet that invites characters and ideas in to stay.
