The Writing Life

Lightning Revisions

Friday, June 18th, 2010 | Eleanor of Aquitaine, The Writing Life, To Be Queen | 2 Comments

I got my notes back from my editors on TO BE QUEEN and I am working to make my new due date while traveling to signings and book clubs. Speed is of the essence, while still making sure the book is the best I can write. I love all of it, working with Eleanor, which I have loved for years, and meeting and talking with readers. I am having a blast. Who knew it would be this fun?

Travel Fun and Writing

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010 | The Writing Life, To Be Queen | 2 Comments

I was in Charleston, SC and loved it. I am back on my borrowed porch now, ready to work once more on the manuscript for TO BE QUEEN. Travel is fun and Charleston is truly charming and beautiful, but I have missed Eleanor…

Beauty and Inspiration

Monday, June 7th, 2010 | The Writing Life | 2 Comments

I am very late with this post, but I have a good excuse…I am traveling this week, visiting beautiful Charleston, SC. What a verdant green country this is…so lush and dare I say, Hot. I am enjoying the beauty that is so different from my own hometown, Wilmington, NC and VERY different from my home of the last four years, New York City. The contemplation of beauty leads me to thoughts how the presence of beauty might influence my work.

How Does a Writer Get Better?

Wednesday, June 2nd, 2010 | The Writing Life, To Be Queen | 2 Comments

How does a writer get better? This is a question I ask myself. I have a few answers that I’ve come up with over the last twelve years, but if anyone else has an idea, I’d love to hear it.

This question is on my mind today because tomorrow I hope to receive the latest batch of notes from my editors. And the question remains: once TO BE QUEEN is back in my hands, how can I make it better?

The Muse

Where does the Muse go when I am not working? Do other artists and writers ask this question, too?

I am waiting for notes from my editor, and as such, Eleanor and I have been taking time off. But as I look forward to the next round of notes for TO BE QUEEN,  I wonder, where does the Muse go when I am not writing? Hmmm…Maybe the Muse lives in the depths of my subconscious mind, and comes out when it’s time to work. I certainly hope so.  I guess that’s what writer’s block would be…the Muse not showing up.
