It was a great weekend for my ladies and myself…THE QUEEN’S PAWNÂ was also listed as one of the Best Historical Fiction Novels of 2010 by the Pittsburgh Historical Fiction Examiner. To say I am honored is an understatement. Thank you so much, Kayla…
Now I need to get back to work…honors and give aways are amazing, but writers need to keep writing.
Lovely Review of The Queen’s Pawn
Wednesday, December 1st, 2010 | Princess Alais, Reviews, The Queen's Pawn | No Comments
Lisa Sanderson was kind enough to give a lovely review of THE QUEEN’S PAWN on Suite1o1. I am always thrilled when someone understands what I am trying to do with my work, as Lisa did, but I love it even more when a reader or reviewer tells me something about my book that I never saw before.

Lisa mentions that Alais is a soul divided between the light and the dark, and that Alais’ relationship with Henry reflects the dark aspects of her personality, and her relationship with Richard reflects the light. I thought that was a very compelling statement and a true one. But more importantly, it was something I had never seen in my own novel.
Thank you for the review, Lisa and for teaching me something about my own book…

The Queen’s Pawn at WHQR: Prologue
Wednesday, September 15th, 2010 | Ben Steelman, Book Clubs, The Queen's Pawn, Video Blog Entries, WHQR | 1 Comment
Can you tell I’m dramatic from my look in the opening shot? Wilmington, NC’s public radio station, WHQR and Ben Steelman of The Star News were kind enough to invite me to participate in their monthly book club, Prologue. Ben and I talked at length last night and took questions from the folks who were there. Here is a video blog of a quote from Reynolds Price that inspired me at a NC Writers’ Conference years ago as well as a question and answer about my writing process.
How do writers schedule their work? It’s different for all of us, and I work differently on each draft. Sometimes I’m strict with myself and sometimes I’m lax, but always, I have to end up back in the chair to get the work done.
