I had the most wonderful time last Saturday at the annual luncheon given by the Association of American University Women at UNCW. For years, I went to this luncheon as a member of the audience, to buy books from North Carolina authors and to listen to their experiences of getting published and their adventures in creating their work: fiction, memoir, and poetry.

This year, I was privileged to attend the luncheon as a speaker, to share my own experiences and to offer encouragement to the writers in the audience, as I was encouraged repeatedly by the AAUW in the past. All that is required to be a writer is the courage to stay in the chair, the focus to develop your work and to make it better. I am living proof of that. Everyone writing now can be published. Though it is a hard road, full of almost constant rejection, it is a road worth taking. I for one am grateful to be on it.
